Of course, given this is the Messi v Ronaldo era, such a debate is inevitable – particularly as it pits Arsenal fans against Manchester United fans. Neutrals and Arsenal supporters will no doubt point to Mkhitaryan’s offside position for his strike, though that doesn’t detract from the technical level shown to pull off such a feat in a game situation. United fans meanwhile will back the Armenian over Arsenal’s Frenchman.
So, which goal is better? It’s time to divide into two opposing camps and dig your heels in defending your man to the bitter end.
Sky pundit David Jones went somewhat overboard in asking his studio guests if Giroud’s was ‘the best goal ever’ at half time of the Palace game, but what we can say with some certainty is that it’s the best goal of 2017 so far.
