Introducing the Just Football Predictions League!

There are few arts trickier to master than that of regularly predicting football scores. Those who can are revered by their peers (and hated by bookies) and those who back the unlikeliest of scenarios will receive plaudits for their courage. Like so many things, predictions can involve the most meticulous planning but still be completely blown away by a freak occurrence.

Starting this weekend (14th September) we’re kicking off the shiny new Just Football Predictions League, a predictions game with a twist. Running once a week, we want you, the reader, to get involved.

As well as pitting four of our writers up against each other, every week we will also select one lucky reader to join the action. The reader will be chosen each week and if you manage to outwit our team of writers, you stay on until you lose. You can enter the draw for week 1 by commenting on this article. We will have three writers who regularly contribute and one spot rotating between different regular writers.

The matches can be from any country and any league as long as they take place between Friday and Monday. There will be three matches under scrutiny each week and the week’s matches will be selected by the previous week’s winner. As well as predicting the correct score each entrant will get the chance to choose an anytime goalscorer for either side which could help their score.

The scoring will be as follows.

Correct score – 5 points

Correct result – 3 points

Correct anytime goalscorer – 2 points

To play is simple:

  1. Follow Just Football on Twitter / Facebook or Google+
  2. On these platforms, each week we will announce the three games for prediction, selected by the player with the most points from the previous week.
  3. Submit your match predictions for these 3 games to @JustFootball, including anytime scorer. See above for the points scheme.
  4. Games take place.

If you win, you stay on for another week AND you have the honour of selecting the following week’s games. If Japanese football is your thing, select 3 games from Japan. If you’re an African football boff, Nigerian Premier League games aren’t off limits (except 67-0 fixes). If you’d prefer to stick to the tried and trusted Premier League, be our guest. Diversity is the JF Predictions League’s secret sauce – our team will have to adapt to your choices.

If you lose, we open it back up to the floor and the game continues. At the end of the season, we may well have prizes for the highest scorers.

This week’s predictions are as follows (and who better to choose them than our newest writer @psharland55, give him a warm Just Football welcome everybody! – Ed):

Internazionale v Juventus

Villarreal v Real Madrid

Ajax v Zwolle

The matches will be previewed in this week’s Three to See. Get predicting below (don’t forget an anytime scorer for bonus points), and we’ll choose the fastest first for this week’s round. If you’re not selected this week, stay calm – you will be shortlisted for following rounds.

Good luck, and enjoy!

Well looks i get 5 points. But im not having much hopes of getting on the board. Need to do better next time. The villareal game was the suprise package with the yellow submarine showing their class on return. Once a top 5 club i wont be suprised if they get back there in a season or two

Not a bad start Pranav – could be worse, like our writer Pete! ;)
