Manchester City have unveiled their new home kit for the 2013-2014 season.
The new sky blue home kit is sponsored by Nike, after Nike sold former kit makers Umbro to Iconix Brand Group last year for £140million, ending City’s association with the Manchester-based firm. As with the new England kit, it’s a new era for Manchester City.
Composed of recycled polyester, the shirts are detailed with white ribbed collars and cuffs, as well as a dark blue trim referencing the socks of the inaugural 1882 team kit, apparently. Other features include Nike’s sweat-wicking Dri-FIT technology and special laser-cut ventilation zones.
With Roberto Mancini sacked earlier this month and Manuel Pellegrini expected to take the reins at the Etihad Stadium imminently these are changing times for Manchester City both on and off the field. A partnership with the New York Yankees in their start-up of an MLS franchise, New York City FC, also points to a new, internationally visible City. The New York skyline in the background of this kit image reflects that.
What do you think of the new Manchester City home kit? Comments welcome below. I quite like the neat simplicity of the design, so I’m giving it a solid 7.8/10.
