This season has seen a landmark change for Lille OSC with the club moving to the majestic 50,000 seater Grand Stade Lille Métropole stadium. To complement this move, Umbro have created the new Lille third kit for the 2012-13 season which is very much dedicated to the fans. Umbro wanted to market the special relationship that fans of “Les Dogues” have with the club and they did so in style by choosing 25 lucky fans from a pool of thousands of applicants to don the kit alongside current players in different landmarks around the city. Here are two photos from Umbro of some of the winners.
The new shirt, which will be worn by the club in European fixtures throughout the season consists of black and dark grey halves. The large iconic P from club sponsors Group Partouche and the Umbro insignia appear in what is a Flanders yellow, an appropriate tribute to the historic region in which Lille is located. The club crest appears in the same Flanders yellow in a monochromatic format. Umbro have made this shirt from a lightweight and breathable material with displaced shoulder seams to minimise abrasion and encourage free flowing movement.
In an age where many football clubs have been accused of protecting their own commercial interests ahead of focusing on what is important to the fans, Umbro have successfully done the opposite by putting the fans at the centre of what is important to the club, thus the kit has so much more meaning. I love the fact that this kit is designed for the fans with the fans in mind.I love the simplicity of the design and the Flanders yellow complements the black very nicely. This kit is highly fashionable as well, it is definitely a kit that can be worn away from football circles to make a statement of metropolitan identity.
I would give the kit a 9.6/10. This is without doubt Umbro’s best kit for the season and best sums up their mantra of “Tailored by Umbro”. This is simply a touch of grace!
