New Manchester United Away Kit 2012-13
Unlike Manchester United’s home shirt, the new Manchester United Away shirt for the 2012/13 season does not carry the “Made of Manchester” Gingham print motif, although the black shorts do carry this pattern. The combination of white shirts, black shorts and white socks have been colours that have been adopted for the second choice kit on numerous occasions over the club’s history.
The showpiece feature of the shirt is the Henley Crew sailing collar with a stunning and vibrant thin red trim with a subtle button closure at the top. The bottom of the sleeves have the same red trim to match the collar. The crest is all in black monochrome to complement the design of the shirt as opposed to using the original colours, this is a great touch from Nike as the original colours of the crest would not have worked with this design. It is very rare, in my opinion that a kit makers insignia, shirt sponsor and club crest complement each other so well on a shirt, however, this is a fine example of these three components working. The iconic devil appears in black on the back of the shirt.
I love this kit. Nike have taken a classic and traditional United away kit and have expertly combined the club colours of red, white and black to give it that contemporary cutting edge.
I would give this kit an 8.7/10.
