Last season, Chelsea finally achieved their long awaited success for Europe’s most exclusive prize. Following the success of Chelsea’s Champions League triumph, it was up to Adidas to create a new Chelsea home kit for the 2012-13 season that was fit for the champions of Europe.
Adidas have made a shirt of two colours only: the iconic royal blue and a daring gold. The combination of these colours represent a fusion of tradition and success. The Adidas three stripes, club sponsor Samsung and monochromatic club crest all appear in Gold as does the ‘CFC’ motif on the rear of the neck. The shirt has a stud shoulder fastening, ribbed crew neck plus gold three striped branding down the sleeves. If you look closely, there is a subtle and clever design of dark blue stripes on the front of the shirt. The shorts are in the same style as the shirt, however, the white socks have the Adidas three stripes in blue. What is great about the kit as a whole is that Adidas knew exactly where to use the gold, as this colour would not have worked on the socks. Adidas have used both their trademark Techfit™ and Climacool™ technologies in the shirt which is proven to enhance performance.
I really like what Adidas have done here with Chelsea’s home kit this season. The gold really works with the royal blue. It is so simple, yet so effective. It creates a message of success and power and a team that wants to build on these attributes. It is a highly fashionable look as well, not just for on the pitch, but for the fans off it as well.
I would give the kit an 8.8/10.
