Weekend Bets: Villa, Arsenal and Wolves to prosper

9 Sep, 2011 Rob Hartnett Features

Just Football’s resident betting expert Rob Hartnett returns with a look at value in the weekend’s Premier League fixtures.

Fulham Vs Blackburn, Sunday 1600 Sky Sports

Super Sunday may be a bit of a misnomer for this televised fixture but perhaps the Sky schedulers know what they are doing.  Yes Fulham have one goal and one point from three games so far. Yes that is one point more than Blackburn but take heed.  The last four games between this pair at Craven Cottage have seen 15 goals.  The last five games that Fulham played at home before their season opener saw 18 goals and Blackburn’s last two road trips have produced nine.  You can get odds of 2.12 about three goals or more.

Sunderland Vs Chelsea, Saturday 1500

Sunderland have lost seven of their last eight home games, and 12 of their last 13 home and away against Chelsea.  It’s hardly the best game back for an under pressure Steve Bruce.  The Blues themselves have not looked as solid at the back but against a misfiring Sunderland strike force can do just enough to take all three points.  The away win is 1.73 but I would rather combine 1-0, 2-0 and 2-1 score lines at odds of 2.60

Wolves Vs Tottenham, Saturday 1500

Wolves’ last away win in the month of September was an incredible ten years ago.  They have only taken all three points from their last 14 games away from White Hart Lane and they go into the game likely to be missing Van der Vaart.  Wolves could also be without influential Matt Jarvis but have enjoyed a fine start to the season with five points from three games and have stung Spurs in the past.  Backing Wolves (+0/0.5) at odds of 1.80 gets you a winner to your full stake with a win and to half your stake with half back if the game is all square.

Everton Vs Aston Villa, Saturday 1500

Aston Villa have lost only one of their last 11 Premier League games, winning five of them.  They have a great record against Everton having won six and drawn four of their last ten meetings.  Against a side shorn of their main creative talent in Arteta and with a woeful record at home in the opening six games of the last three seasons, taking odds of 1.80 about a Villa win or a draw looks like a steal.

Arsenal Vs Swansea, Saturday 1500

Swansea have yet to score in the Premier League and look very short of scoring threat.  Mertesacker should calm nerves at the back for Arsenal and Arteta could be in his element for a strong home debut.  The pressure is on Arsenal but they can ease it with a comfortable win here.  A combination of 2-0, 3-0 and 4-0 looks good value at 3.60

  1. Wolves have gained 7 points from the first three games, not 5 as you suggest.

  2. Hi
Would you like to proof read the Wolves Vs Tottenham, entry above, as your facts are incorrect. Wolves have 7 points not 5 and the first part should read Spurs last away win …. instead of Wolves. deary me – back to the drawing board eh!!!

  3. Shocking tips!!!!!!!

  4. Sorry for slip of the keyboard on the Wolves game, shame I didn’t get that tip the other way around as well. Still the Chelsea correct score and the Villa Asian Handicap came up trumps and you could have taken a profit on the Fulham game with two goals scored and so much time to go. We’ll have another crack next weekend.
