Something for the Weekend – Liverpool, Manchester City to cruise, goals at St James’s
Last week’s first betting column of the new season got off to a good start but went downhill through the weekend. Taking a profit on the draw in the Community Shield with ten minutes to playwould have given us three winners from six but as it was we had to settle for Blackpool and Southampton. The Premier League is our focus this weekend. Good luck and watch out in the coming weeks for some articles explaining ways to get the best out of your football betting.
Fulham Vs Aston Villa Saturday 1500
Eight of the last 13 meetings between these two sides has finished all square and while I think Villa will have a decent season, everything points to another share of the spoils here. Fulham concede almost two thirds of their goals in the first half last season while Villa dropped more points from winning positions than any other top flight team, no fewer than 26. They failed to keep a single clean sheet away from home last season and Fulham are tough to beat at home losing just one of their last nine in the league at Craven Cottage.
Bet: Fulham and Aston Villa to draw @ 3.45 (6 Points)
In Play bet: Lay the Draw if level on 75 minutes at odds of 1.50 or less; back the draw again if Villa are leading on 75 minutes at odds of 6.00 or bigger (2 Points)
QPR Vs Bolton Saturday 1500
QPR kept 25 clean sheets in the Championship last season and despite dismissive comments in most previews, the signings of Campbell and Bothroyd will give them a threat. Bolton’s away form was desperate last year with five defeats in a row to end the campaign and one point from the last 12 away from the Reebok.
Bet: QPR to win 1-0 or 2-0 @ 4.70 (4 Points)
Liverpool Vs Sunderland Saturday 1500 Setanta
Liverpool have a great record against Sunderland winning eight of the last ten meetings. They were strong at Anfield last season with nine of their twelve home wins being to nil and that is where the best opportunity lies this weekend as well. The reds are a best priced 1.55 to win the game but they are 2.50 to do so with a clean sheet.
Bet: Liverpool win to nil @ 2.50 (8 Points)
Bristol Rovers Vs Torquay Saturday 1500
Bristol Rovers looked very professional in winning at Wimbledon last week while Torquay will not relish coming up against their former boss and some of the star players he took with him. I would have expected odds of around 1.80 about a home win here so 2.05 is very attractive and should not be passed up.
Bet: Bristol Rovers to win @ 2.05 (6 Points)
Newcastle Vs Arsenal Saturday 1730 ESPN
There may not be a repeat of last season’s eight goals in this fixture but the bet has to be on it being something of a high scoring affair. Newcastle at home and Arsenal away both produced an average goal tally of 3.6 per game last season and with both sides looking to make changes to their line up, there could be another opportunity for the goals to flow.
Bet: Over 2.5 goals @ 1.90 (8 Points)
Man City Vs Swansea Monday 2000 Sky Sports
Man City won nine of their last ten home games last season, drawing the other against Fulham. In that run they scored 25 goals and conceded only five. Swansea could have had a better looking start to life in the top flight and while they were able to play tight against most of the top sides last year, they only took nine points from ten away games against the other top 11 teams. City are a decent bet to go to town here.
Bet: Man City (-1.5) @ 1.85 (8 Points)
