Weekend Six Pack – The end of history for Spurs at White Hart Lane

15 Jan, 2011 Rob Hartnett Fan Culture

Each week our betting columnist Rob Hartnett will bring you six bets from the weekend football action.  Rob is the public face of leading In Play betting specialists 188BET.com and appears regularly on the Bolton, Wigan, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Everton websites doing betting previews.  You can follow his thoughts on Twitter @HartnettRob

Everton on the Asian Handicap, Blackburn and Aston Villa kept up our profitable start to the New Year in the FA Cup last weekend.  Those who made it all the way through to the final paragraph or who tuned in to twitter will also have benefitted from the suggestion that Chelsea were due a big one and were worth backing at odds of 10.0 to win scoring five or more.  Happy days indeed.

Back to League action this weekend and some big local derbies to get stuck into:

January 15th and 16th

Man City Vs Wolves -2.5 Goals @ 2.21

Wolves have climbed out of the bottom three with four wins in their last seven league games.  I cannot see them completing the double over City but there is a tighter look at the back and that can prevent this being a goal feast.  Four of their last five have gone under three goals while the same has been the case in four of the last six at Eastlands.  The odds do not reflect these recent trends.

Bolton (0) at Stoke City @ 2.66

The Britannia is not so much a fortress as of old with Blackpool and Fulham stealing all three points there in recent weeks.  Bolton are on a run of four away defeats but all were by a single goal and they were tough games.  They have won three and drawn one of the five games with Stoke since their return to the top flight and have won two of three at the Britannia.  Two of the wins have been in the 90th minute so it may be worth the insurance of Draw No Bet in the (0) Asian Handicap market.

Blackpool to win away at WBA @4.70

West Brom have only seven points from their last ten games. Form that would see them anchored at the bottom of the table.  Blackpool show no such signs of slowing with 15 in the last ten and victory over Liverpool on Wednesday. They beat the Baggies 2-1 earlier in the season and only Man City and Arsenal have more away wins in the Premier League.

Wigan and Fulham to draw @ 3.20

These two have drawn a combined 19 of 42 League games so far this season.  Wigan have drawn five, won two at home, Fulham have drawn five of seven away at sides outside the top six.  And just in case you needed more this fixture has finished all square in each of the last four seasons.

Sunderland to beat Newcastle @ 2.21

Sunderland need revenge for the 5-1 thrashing by Newcastle earlier in the season.  In fact their ‘second best’ status locally goes deeper with only one win, to Newcastle’s seven in the last 12 meetings.  They do have the third best home record in the League though.  All six of their home wins have been to nil and the key here is that Newcastle have only scored nine away goals all season, four from Andy Carroll who is a doubt.

Spurs to beat Man United @ 2.80

Spurs bridged a 20 year gap by winning away at Arsenal earlier this season.  They will not fear the hand of history which says they cannot beat Man United.  United have won only two away games all season and i feel they are over rated on their performances to date.  They have conceded at least two in four of nine games and the return of Defoe is enough to give Spurs the confidence to end their unbeaten run.

…and elsewhere

Aston Villa have taken seven points from local derbies this season versus Birmingham’s one and have played three games against teams below the Blues in the table, winning all three.  3.00 looks a bit big.  The Mersey Derby is tough to call with so much baggage around.  Everton are coming good while Liverpool’s home form remains solid.  There have only been six goals in the last six meetings at Anfield.  Arsenal have a 4-2-0 record against bottom half teams.  West Ham have a 0-1-8 record against the top 8.  Blackburn have scored in nine of 11 away games but conceded 15 in four away to the top 6 so far.  Chelsea 3-1 looks a fair bet in the correct score market at 12.0
