Ghana Win Under-20 World Cup 2009!!
A 0-0 scoreline after 120 minutes did no justice to the excitement of a dramatic final that saw Ghana go unjustly down to ten men when Daniel Addo saw red after 37 minutes, but defend like lions to repel waves of Brazilian attacks and take the game to extra time and penalties.
A dramatic penalty shootout then ebbed and flowed – one minute everyone was scoring, then nobody could find the net. Maicon finally had the chance to win the trophy for Brazil, but he skied his penalty over the bar before Ghana came back into the shootout thanks to Golden Boot winner Dominic Adiyiah’s converted strike. Daniel Agyei, a rock in the Black Satellites goal, then saved Alex Teixeira’s penalty in sudden death before Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu coolly slotted home to win the tournament for Ghana.
Highlights of a dramatic penalty shootout are below and we’ll be back with more analysis of the game and tournament as a whole soon. For now, congratulations Ghana!

Brazil, Ghana, U-20 World Cup

Do you think this will spur both the Ghana football team and the other African football teams to try and win the World Cup, if so which one is capable of doing so, do you think?
Also, Ghana might want to think about bringing in some of these players into the World Cup squad, don't you think?
This whole competition can only be good for both Ghana and African football as a whole Peter. As qualification over in CAF is not quite complete yet it is hard to call which sides are capable of going far in South Africa next year, but of the African teams qualified so far in my opinion Ivory Coast have the best chance going into 2010.
They could have gone far even in 2006, but a horrible group draw against Argentina, Holland and a Serbia side who boasted one of the best defences in Europe during that qualifying campaign put paid to their hopes. If they can get an easier group draw and make it through, I think they could really surprise people.
As per your second question – Ghana already have some players from the U-20s playing in the national side: right back Samuel Inkoom and the captain Andre Ayew are both full internationals, but I definitely expect more players from this U-20s team to win full caps and maybe even make it to 2010.
Top scorer Dominic Adiyiah for example, should make it to South Africa because Ghana have a dearth of top class strikers. And the coach Sellas Tetteh will surely coach the seniors one day after masterminding the whole thing brilliantly. A very promising coach.
