@ nate - Kaka is utilised so much better by Dunga than Messi is in the Argentine national team. But I am beginning to wonder if Messi is as great as everyone says or if he is just great in THAT Barca side alongside players as incredibly gifted as Henry, Iniesta and Xavi. So far he has disappointed for Argentina.

In fact, in Argentina people are not overly enamoured by Messi. They feel he is quite selfish on the ball and because he hasnt really done it for the national team he's not quite won the public over yet. Perhaps in a more appropriate tactical system he would shine brighter (should Maradona play 4-3-3 a la Barca?).

@ P Shaw - At this moment in time only 3 teams really standout as World Cup candidates for me: Spain, Brazil and England. Germany can never be ruled out because they have impeccable tournament mentality, but in terms of quality they lack that little bit to go all the way.

I really see the World Cup going to one of those 3, and the way things are going England have an outstanding chance.

btw Peter, regarding a previous comment you left on Just-Football here is a link to my thoughts on the Kakuta/Chelsea saga:

http://www.just-football.com/2009/09/chelsea-transfer-ban-platini-stands-up.html

Would love to hear your own opinions. :-)

i drew the following conclusion from this weekend's fifa qualy matches: kaka is the world's best footballer.
why?
simply becuase the other 2 candidates under-perform with their national team, messi and cristiano ronaldo have yet to make a huge impression for their teams were as kaka has done everything with brasil and proved it once again after his brilliant performance versus argentina/messi.

Undoubtedly Argentina do have the best player in the world - Messi, but one player doesn't make a whole team just like with Portuagal and Ronaldo. There are no other great players in the Argentian team, just good players and they can't function as a team. The defence for Argentina has historically always been bad, and they are awful now, but they were always backed up by great forwards but there are no great forwards apart from Messi.

Brazil look absolutely fantastic for the World Cup, a great defence, fantastic midfield and brilloiant attack with plenty of world class players to choose from. Just-football: Who do you think will be a good bet for the World Cup?
