Guess The Opening Day Fixtures 2009/2010 – A Little Game For You

(UPDATE – 27/6/09 - to read the full English 2009/2010 fixture list follow this link.)

One of the greatest days of the year takes place on Wednesday 17th June 2009. No, Christmas Day hasn’t been moved forward a few months, neither is Apple releasing it’s latest shiny new product. It is fixture list day in England.

I don’t know about you, but I love fixture list day. It is the day when fans across the land discover exactly what parts of the country they will be heading to to support their team and when. A day on which reality kicks in for promoted and relegated clubs alike and the excitement, or indeed misery, finally hits home. The day on which you can finally start making concrete plans for pretty much any other major event in your life over the next year. Grudge match against a team that cost your club crucial points set for mid-November? Might want to reschedule that dentist’s appointment. Derby day scheduled for late March? Might have to postpone that wedding, birthday party or bah mitzvah then.

It is the day on which that beautiful, clever little computer (which we never see) basically dishes out 38 extra birthdays, or 46 if you support team in the lower leagues, like Newcastle.*

If you are like us at Just-Football and cannot wait for the next 24 hours to go by, why not join us in a little game? Namely: Guess the opening day Premier League 2009/2010 fixtures. From the list of 20 Premier League teams, all you have to do is pick what the computer will throw up and write your predictions in the comments field below. 5 points if you guess the fixture correctly, 10 if you also get the home and away team right. Winner gets plenty of kudos and vague accusations of insider knowledge.

Here are the 20 teams and my own predictions:

Arsenal – Aston Villa – Birmingham City – Blackburn Rovers – Bolton Wanderers – Burnley – Chelsea – Everton – Fulham – Hull City – Liverpool – Manchester City – Manchester United – Portsmouth – Stoke City – Sunderland – Tottenham – West Ham United – Wigan Athletic – Wolves

* – Sorry Newcastle fans, I couldn’t resist!
