As viewers in the UK who sat through the Everton v Liverpool FA Cup fourth round replay at Goodison Park will know to their frustration, ITV managed to somehow stupidly cut to adverts just in time for Dan Gosling’s goal. After 118 minutes of scrappy football and with the game set to head for a penalty shootout, for some reason the terrestrial TV station cut to an ad break with play still going on.
The timing could not have been worse. Before ITV could rectify the problem and get back to the action, Gosling scored, leaving viewers looking on in a state of bewilderment and in most cases anger as the next picture they saw after the pause for an advert was that of the Goodison crowd wildly celebrating the goal.
Well, for those of you that missed it, here is Dan Gosling’s goal. Liverpool are out, Everton advance to the fifth round where they will play Aston Villa. Someone at ITV has got some explaining to do.
