12.03pm – Well, that’s it from me. Thanks for joining us for this live draw of the Champions League last sixteen. What are your thoughts on the draw? Pleased with who your team got paired with? And based on this draw, who do you think are favourites to qualify and win the tournament? We’d love to hear your opinions, which you can leave in the comments section. See you next time.
Arsenal will fancy their chances against Roma I feel. While Spalletti’s men have improved in recent weeks, Arsenal are the sort of team that could put a few goals past them at home and take a good enough lead to the Stadio Olimpico to be able to complete the job.
Elsewhere Bayern Munich and Villarreal will be pleased with their draws against Sporting Lisbon and Panathinaikos respectively, Lyon will surely be dreading the prospect of facing the in-form team in Europe, Barcelona, while Atletico Madrid v Porto appears to be a well-matched clash that could go either way. Then again, with Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero in the side, Atleti just look to have the better of that tie if they can take a satisfactory result with them to Portugal for the second leg.
11.55am - There are some real mouthwatering ties in that last sixteen. Claudio Ranieri will be heading back to England to face Chelsea, the club he used to manage. No doubt most Chelsea fans will give the popular Italian coach a warm reception, unless they are still consumed by the confusion and rage they felt when his side were knocked out of the competition’s semi-finals to Monaco under his tenure. Juventus are an improving side though this season, with both Amauri and Alessandro Del Piero on top form, so it will be a tough game for the Blues especially with the second leg away from home.
11.49am - Real Madrid v Liverpool and Inter Milan v Manchester United have to be the ties of the round in terms of both glamour and potential plotlines. Fernando Torres, as an Atletico fan and former player, goes back to Madrid to take on the enemy. Rafa Benitez too, having been coach of Valencia and having thwarted Madrid in two title races during his time there. Madrid are not performing too well at the moment either, so you might put down the Reds as favourites especially with a second leg at Anfield.
The other mouthwatering clash sees Jose Mourinho, English media darling, returning to the country in which he established himself as the ‘Special One.’ He will be heading back to Old Trafford, where he famously knocked out United whilst Porto coach in 2004. Not many United fans will have forgotten Mourinho’s crazed run down the touchline in celebration of that feat. Manchester United for their part have not had much success in Milan recently, wilting in the electric heat of the San Siro at the semi final stage in 2007 when AC Milan took them apart, but in 1999 they knocked out Inter on the way to completing the treble. If they are to become the first side to retain the Champions League (teams have retained the European Cup I might add, but not in its current guise), then Sir Alex will have to see off Jose Mourinho once again.
LIVE – The draw is now ready and about to take place.
The first club drawn is Chelsea. They will play the first leg at home against Juventus.
Atletico Madrid v FC Porto
The draw for the last sixteen of the 2008-2009 UEFA Champions League will take place at FIFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, at 11.00am UK time (12.00pm CET). Just-Football will be bringing you the draw live. While we wait for the draw here is a look at the sixteen sides that qualified:
Group Winners: AS Roma, Panathinaikos, FC Barcelona, Liverpool, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, FC Porto, Juventus.
Runners-Up: Chelsea, Inter Milan, Sporting Lisbon, Atletico Madrid, Villarreal, Olympique Lyonnais, Arsenal, Real Madrid.
Potential ties: Two simple rules govern the draw. Firstly, Group winners play one of the runners-up except for the side with whom they were paired in the group stage. And secondly, clubs from the same country cannot play each other at this stage. So potential ties are as follows:

Panathinaikos vs Chelsea, Sporting Lisbon, Atletico Madrid, Villarreal, Olympique Lyonnais, Arsenal, Real Madrid.
FC Barcelona vs Chelsea, Inter Milan, Olympique Lyonnais, Arsenal.

FC Porto vs Chelsea, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Villarreal, Olympique Lyonnais, Real Madrid.
Juventus vs Chelsea, Sporting Lisbon, Atletico Madrid, Villarreal, Olympique Lyonnais, Arsenal.
Chelsea vs Panathinaikos, FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich, FC Porto, Juventus.
Inter Milan vs FC Barcelona, Liverpool, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, FC Porto.
Sporting Lisbon vs AS Roma, Panathinaikos, Liverpool, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Juventus.
Atletico Madrid vs AS Roma, Panathinaikos, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, FC Porto, Juventus.
Villarreal vs AS Roma, Panathinaikos, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, FC Porto, Juventus.
Olympique Lyonnais vs AS Roma, Panathinaikos, FC Barcelona, Liverpool, Manchester United, FC Porto, Juventus.
Arsenal vs AS Roma, Panathinaikos, FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus.
Real Madrid vs AS Roma, Panathinaikos, Liverpool, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, FC Porto.
So, whilst FIFA faff about preparing the long drawn-out ceremony, have your say. Any predictions? Real Madrid to draw Manchester United if you ask me.

Lyon are going to get crushed!
